Melina

Figures in an Interior

The colored pencil drawing is inspired by Bazzi’s 3:15 music video and took around 4 hours to complete. I wish it had more likeness to him but I think the neon effect and neon lights were relatively successful. (12″x18″)

The ink wash and fine marker piece features some of my friends sharing a great blanket. I like that there is resemblance to each person even with little detail but wish I could have achieved greater tone variation in my ink. (12″x18″)

  1. Melina, try some more ink wash and line drawings like that, it has such a good sense of movement. In the Bazzi drawing (thanks Jenna) the clothes and body are very well done, the features are a little obscured, maybe it’s the light pencil maybe its the dark crease at the side of his face.
On first glance it is very compelling but when we want to go in closer its hard to se..but maybe it’s about mystery. Get in the habit of stepping back from your drawings just before you finish them!

  2. The Bazzi drawing is very cool! I love that the background and the use of colors work together well to create a glowing effect. It is also really cool how you were able to take colors that are not necessarily all complimentary/ always work well together, like the contrast between the green and warmer colors like yellow and orange, and make a piece that worked so well overall.
