Figures in the Interior

My intentions with these drawings was to explore creating drawings in a media I’m not familiar with yet. There were some pros and cons with working digitally.

The pros are that any mistakes could easily be undid, and there was not set up/mess/smudging when drawing digitally. Additionally, you save time with not needing to mixing every color before applying.

What I did find difficult was that you couldn’t control the blending as you could as easily with traditional materials. Therefore, the blending was unnatural or in my second drawing, just not attempted.

Another thing I found difficult but not due to the nature of digital media but because of drawing from life, was that my cat kept moving and actually left halfway through the drawing. That’s why she’s more of a simple drawing and no details were attempted. I also wasn’t interested in my background so it was also left very sketchy and simple.

  1. Viola, Wonderful pieces, so great to be able to see the steps, you should think about doing instructional videos! I like the you focused on your face, it “draws” the viewer into the frame very successfully. I might have softened the background a little, maybe a gradient instead of strokes, to differentiate between the rendering of the cat in the foreground and the rendering of the background.

  2. The digital drawing is very cool! The shading looks effortless but really conveys dimension well. It is a little challenging to see what the objects in the background are, so maybe add some more detail to them next time.
