Narrative Self-Portraits

Both of these self portraits took an hour and a half each and are on 9×12″ white paper. The first also features a camera lens drawn in with blue pen. The second is inspired by Sir John Tenniel, original illustrator of Alice in Wonderland, for personal reasons.

  1. The use of pen for the camera lens for your eye is amazing and gives a terminator/black mirrors kind of vibes, especially since you decided to leave the human eye blank and not draw in the pupil. Your mark making is incredible, it seems so loose and carefree but each stroke gives a lot of information and you still get a great amount of detail. I would love to see more of your drawings done with this mix of graphite and the pop of pen.

The architectural perspective in the second drawing is spot on. I’m not sure if Alice is really proportional but that could be the appeal since Alice in Wonderland is sort of trippy.

  2. For the first image, I really like how you used different pen colors it makes the stark contrast between biological and artificial feel really dramatic. I think using a darker pencil could add even more depth to the hallway in the second image which could be cool

  3. Really interesting images, I like the imagery(camera lense for your eye) and contrast in the first drawing and the narrative (reminiscent) quality of the drawing of yourself as Alice, but what’s with the tiny foot?
