Abstraction

I drew this with colored pencil on the 18″ x 24″ drawing paper. I wanted to overlay different positions with different colors so that no one image is immediately clear but you can see each pose if you follow the color. I did messy gesture drawings of each pose before making the obvious outline on top and I used poses that would allow me to foreshorten feet/hands. I made the blue pose first and made it dark because the other two poses would be on top, but the blue one definitely stands out more than I wanted it to. I wish that I had used the blue pencil more lightly so that it only stood out as much as the other two. It gets really busy/messy in parts which I think might be too overwhelming.

  1. I really like how the overlapping figures seem to interact with each other, opposed to just being placed on top of each other. I think you were really successful in adding weight/tension to the figures.
