Abstraction 2

This is a (poorly torn- my apologies) piece of printmaking paper about 8″x12″. I got the image off of a website artmodeltips.com that has a ton of stock images of nude models posing in different ways. I used cray-pas for her body and then used my brush and a light wash of ink to go over everything around her. It worked nicely because cray-pas repel water. I then didn’t think there was enough contrast so I added black cray-pa to darken shadows and then used a carving tool to scratch away hashmarks to add texture and detail.

  1. Nicely textured, I actually like the torn edge of the paper. There may be a little too much separation between figure and ground although it makes for a very dramatic image, in a drawing you want to try for some sense of consistency and interplay between figure and ground.

  2. The saturation of colors and the dynamic quality of the form really make the piece feel alive and moving. I love the textural additions, even the torn page side to be honest, wither it was intentional or not.
