I worked with a mass drawing that I made in class because there was a lot of opportunity to add things to it and it had a lot of space on the page to do something with a background. I wanted to make a dark, moody drawing with some distinct colors. I used oil pastel to draw a more detailed, dark-colored drawing on top of the mass drawing. I wasn’t going for realism so I used different colors and exaggerated certain body features like bones. I used papers I had lying around in the background and colored the rest black with conte crayon. I had a lot of fun making it, the figure could definitely be improved and made to look more complete (especially his head) but I accomplished the overall vibe I was going for. The lighting of the photo is also not the best, in person the black conte crayon in the background looks less patchy.

Wow the color blocking really creates an evocative space for the figure. It feels very expressive for something that started from such a simple form. I love how you clarified certain features while maintaining a blend of modernist qualities.
Sianin, color on the figure works well, not sure about the patch on the arm, but somehow the simple geometry of the ground works with it all.
You did a nice job clarifying the shape of the figure, I would have had a hard time with the face and neck–especially without a model–it looks really great. I also like how you created a space for the image to exist in.
