I made my final project based on Jinju Lee’s boxed in figures. I thought it was pretty fitting considering we’re all in quarantine. I initially tried to do these figures on real paper and watercolor, but everything kept bleeding and running since there were just so many layers to the piece. I moved on to digital paint using Adobe Fresco. I first made a sketch of a girl looking at her laptop in her room (and that’s the one that I showed to the class), but I made a mistake with the layers on the Adobe program. I accidentally kept coloring on the sketch layer, so I couldn’t fix my mistakes. I also had a lot of trouble even picking the colors to make the objects stand out as what they actually are. There was just so much detail and distinction, and the piece came out really messy. My second attempt (the one above) I made the pieces a lot more simpler, and this time, I derived more inspiration from Jinju Lee’s Circulation painting, which consists of a girl sitting in a box of water. In exchange for taking away the parts of the room I was going to paint, I painted water. I thought it was fitting to the theme of quarantine since being in the house all day is a little suffocating.

These turned out beautiful. I love that the two figures are in different positions and slightly abstracted. I think the water was a nice way to connect the two drawings as well.
